Meet me at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo — Dallas

The Original Sewing & Quilt Expo is one of the largest sewing events in the country,
and it comes to Irving, Texas every summer.

I'm teaching classes on July 30 and 31 — and if you're already planning to be there,
I'd love to see you in the classroom.

Fabricology: Mastering Fabric Confidence for Garment Sewing

Finally understand why fabric behaves the way it does.

Fabricology is a hands-on class built around one thing: getting fabric in your hands and learning to identify what you're feeling — and why it matters for your sewing.

Hands-on class · Thursday, July 30                                                                                                                                     1:00-4:00PM Irving Convention Center

WHAT MAKES THIS CLASS DIFFERENT

You can read about fiber content and fabric structure all day. But there is nothing like holding two fabrics side by side and feeling the difference — the fiber, the yarn, the weave, the hand. That is what this class is built around.

We cover fabric fundamentals — fiber, yarn, weave, knit construction, drape, weight, and finish — but the real learning happens in the discussion. You bring your questions, your confusion, your "why does this go wrong" moments, and we work through them together in real time.

Every student leaves with a Fabricology reference binder — 50 curated apparel fabric swatches, natural fiber samples, a GSM weight chart, a knit stretch ruler, terminology guides, and expansion pages to keep building your own personal fabric library long after class ends.

Measure for Success: High Bust, Ease, and Choosing the Right Size

Most sewists aren't skipping their measurements. They're just taking them wrong.

There's a right way to take a high bust measurement — and once you know it, everything about choosing a pattern size gets clearer.

Hands-on class · Friday, July 31                                                                                                                                     8:30-10:00AM Irving Convention Center

WHAT WE COVER

We start with the high bust — the measurement most sewists either skip or take incorrectly — and build from there. High bust, full bust, waist, hip, and key vertical measurements, all with correct tape placement, posture, and the context for why each one matters.

But this workshop isn't just about getting accurate numbers. It's about knowing what to do with them. Once you understand your measurements — and the difference between wearing ease and design ease — you can actually look at a pattern tissue and make informed decisions about size and style before you ever cut anything.

We also talk about how body shape affects how ease behaves, and how your measurements can help you anticipate the kinds of adjustments a pattern might need. That's a different skill than just measuring — and it's one most sewists never get taught.

Bring your questions. If you've ever wondered why the size on the envelope never looks right on you, or felt confused about when to use high bust versus full bust to size — this is exactly the kind of thing we work through together in the room.

What to wear: You'll be taking measurements with a partner during class — wear fitted clothing for the most accurate results.

WHO THIS CLASS IS FOR

  • You're frustrated with sewing pattern sizing — the size on the envelope never seems to match what ends up on your body.
  • You've finished a garment only to have the fit completely off, and you're not sure where it went wrong.
  • You don't fully understand pattern ease — or how to use it to flatter your figure instead of fight it.
